Windows Azure SQL Updates with New Features

A service updates have been released and added to the Windows Azure SQL database according to the latest announcement by Microsoft. The company behind Windows Azure, Microsoft has deployed service updates to Windows Azure SQL Database that add new features. The updates now has support for linked server and distributed queries against the database. With the latest Windows Azure SQL Updates you can now use recursive triggers. On the admin side, DBCC SHOW_STATISTICS is now supported. You can also configure firewall rules at the database label. With the newest support for linked server and distributed queries, developers can now add an Azure database as a linked server then use it as a data source for linked queries from local on-premises and cloud data simultaneously. Although you could only set Azure firewall rules at the server level, but the changes allow you to set the rules at database level using either the management portal or T-SQL, and have different rules for different database hosted on the same logical SQL Database server. The Windows Azure SQL Updates add more granular control with its changes to the firewall.
