JavaScript - Delete JSON Element From An Array

In this tutorial we will create a Delete JSON Element From An Array using JavaScript. This code will use onclick() to call a specific function that can delete a JSON element using delete a built-in JavaScript function that use for delete JSON object by providing the index position of an element. You can apply this script to your code, it is a user-friendly program feel free to modify it. We will use JavaScript to add some new feature to the website interface by actually written into an HTML page. It is what gives your page a different interactive elements and animation that engage a user. .

Getting Started:

First you have to download bootstrap framework, this is the link for the bootstrap that I used for the layout design https://getbootstrap.com/.

The Main Interface

This code contains the interface of the application. To create this just write these block of code inside the text editor and save this as index.html.
  1. <!DOCTYPE html>
  2. <html lang="en">
  3.         <head>
  4.                 <meta charset="UTF-8" name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"/>
  5.                 <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/bootstrap.css"/>
  6.         </head>
  7.         <nav class="navbar navbar-default">
  8.                 <div class="container-fluid">
  9.                         <a class="navbar-brand" href="https://sourcecodester.com">Sourcecodester</a>
  10.                 </div>
  11.         </nav>
  12.         <div class="col-md-3"></div>
  13.         <div class="col-md-6 well">
  14.                 <h3 class="text-primary">JavaScript - Delete JSON Element From An Array</h3>
  15.                 <hr style="border-top:1px dotted #ccc;"/>
  16.                 <div class="col-md-4">
  17.                         <div class="form-group">
  18.                                 <label>Firstname</label>
  19.                                 <input type="text" id="firstname" class="form-control"/>
  20.                         </div>
  21.                         <div class="form-group">
  22.                                 <label>Lastname</label>
  23.                                 <input type="text" id="lastname" class="form-control"/>
  24.                         </div>
  25.                         <div class="form-group">
  26.                                 <label>Address</label>
  27.                                 <input type="text" id="address" class="form-control"/>
  28.                         </div>
  29.                         <div class="form-group">
  30.                                 <button type="button" onclick="saveData()" class="btn btn-primary form-control">Save Data</button>
  31.                         </div>
  32.                 </div>
  33.                 <div class="col-md-8">
  34.                         <table class="table table-bordered">
  35.                                 <thead class="alert-info">
  36.                                         <tr>
  37.                                                 <th>Firstname</th>
  38.                                                 <th>Lastname</th>
  39.                                                 <th>Address</th>
  40.                                                 <th>Action</th>
  41.                                         </tr>
  42.                                 </thead>
  43.                                 <tbody id= "result"></tbody>
  44.                         </table>
  45.                 </div>
  46.         </div>
  47. </body>
  48. <script src="js/script.js"></script>
  49. </html>

Creating the Script

This code contains the script of the application. This code will delete JSON element when the button is clicked. To do this just copy and write these block of codes as shown below inside the text editor and save it as script.js inside the js directory
  1. var data = [];
  2.
  3. function saveData(){
  4.         var firstname = document.getElementById("firstname");
  5.         var lastname = document.getElementById("lastname");
  6.         var address = document.getElementById("address");
  7.
  8.         if(firstname.value == "" || lastname.value == "" || address.value == ""){
  9.                 alert("Please complete the required field first!");
  10.         }else{
  11.                 var member = {
  12.                         'firstname': firstname.value,
  13.                         'lastname': lastname.value,
  14.                         'address': address.value,
  15.                 };
  16.
  17.                 data.push(member);
  18.
  19.                 displayData();
  20.
  21.
  22.                 firstname.value = "";
  23.                 lastname.value = "";
  24.                 address.value = "";
  25.
  26.         }
  27. }
  28.
  29. function displayData(){
  30.
  31.         var table = "" ;
  32.
  33.                         for(var i in data){
  34.                                 table += "<tr>";
  35.                                 table += "<td>"
  36.                                                 + data[i].firstname +"</td>"
  37.                                                 + "<td>" + data[i].lastname +"</td>"
  38.                                                 + "<td>" + data[i].address +"</td>"
  39.                                                 + "<td><button class='btn btn-danger btn-sm' onclick='deleteData("+i+")'>Delete</button></td>";
  40.                                 table += "</tr>";
  41.                         }
  42.
  43.         document.getElementById("result").innerHTML = table;
  44. }
  45.
  46. function deleteData(index){
  47.         delete data[index];
  48.         alert("You have deleted a row");
  49.         displayData();
  50. }
