Visual Basic 6.0 and Windows 7

With the new version of Windows to be release on October 22, 2009, Microsoft Corp. made a statement that Visual Basic 6.0 is still supported. This is good news to all programmers who still use VB 6.0 as their programming language.

When Windows Vista came out the number one software that I try to install is my beloved Visual Studio 6.0. In my amazement it was not supported. There was no backward compatibility with this software. Since I cannot give up at least VB 6.0 I made thorough research whether there is a little hack on this matter. But thanks to Microsoft because VB 6.0 professional edition is still supported under vista.

Now we are facing again a new challenge. For those who do not know yet you have to cheer up because you’re still going to use VB 6.0 professional edition in windows 7. Visual Basic 6.0 being obsolete?

Yes, may be some of you will agree on this. But there are still so many programs which is not yet ported to the new version of VB. And we need to continue with further support on this, or else we will loss some of our clients.

Of course you can make a suggestion to upgrade your software and charge again your client but in some cases they will not agree with it, especially if your program is running fine. So why upgrade if they can still use it?

The Future of VB .NET

In recent survey experts said that the future of VB .NET is among those computer languages that plays an important role in the world of programming. Among these languages are JAVA, PHP, VB.NET, C# and C/C++.

If you still love VB 6.0 it’s better to start playing now with VB .NET. It is more robust compare to VB 6.0. You will find it easy to work with compare to the previous version. There’s a lots of changes to the development environment of VB .NET so migrating your VB 6.0 project is worth a try.
