Due to the acquisition of Oracle on Sun Microsystem, the community are now concerned on the future of MySQL. Due to this reason, MariaDB which is under the database of MySQL split off. Though MariaDB has a lot of similarities to MySQL when it comes to its features and advancement, still there will always be a difference between the two database, and the reason will never be enough that MariaDB will be completely compatible to MySQL as a replacement. With these matter, you should also consider the incompatibilities of MySQL and MariaDB, because even if both of these database has just the same features, people should also think and compare the advancement of the two database, because there will be an instance that MySQL do have this while MariaDB don't have this type of feature. As Oracle purchase the MySQL, people were now afraid that they will also snatch the MariaDB which has the possibility to be soon commercialized, but MariaDB also give a lot of reason to give up the MySQL and to stay with this database.
