JavaScript - Simple Insert JSON Data

In this tutorial we will create a Simple Insert JSON Data using JavaScript. This code will insert the data inputs as a JSON objects. The code itself use a onclick() function to launch a method that store the data inputs as array then compress to generate an object by the use of dot notation push(). You can apply this script to your code, it is a user-friendly program feel free to modify it. We will use JavaScript to add some new feature to the website interface by actually written into an HTML page. It is what gives your page a different interactive elements and animation that engage a user. .

Getting Started:

First you have to download bootstrap framework, this is the link for the bootstrap that I used for the layout design https://getbootstrap.com/.

The Main Interface

This code contains the interface of the application. To create this just write these block of code inside the text editor and save this as index.html.
  1. <!DOCTYPE html>
  2. <html lang="en">
  3.         <head>
  4.                 <meta charset="UTF-8" name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1"/>
  5.                 <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/bootstrap.css"/>
  6.         </head>
  7.         <nav class="navbar navbar-default">
  8.                 <div class="container-fluid">
  9.                         <a class="navbar-brand" href="https://sourcecodester.com">Sourcecodester</a>
  10.                 </div>
  11.         </nav>
  12.         <div class="col-md-3"></div>
  13.         <div class="col-md-6 well">
  14.                 <h3 class="text-primary">Javascript - Simple Insert JSON Data</h3>
  15.                 <hr style="border-top:1px dotted #ccc;"/>
  16.                 <div class="col-md-6">
  17.                         <div class="form-group">
  18.                                 <label>Firstname</label>
  19.                                 <input type="text" id="firstname" class="form-control"/>
  20.                         </div>
  21.                         <div class="form-group">
  22.                                 <label>Lastname</label>
  23.                                 <input type="text" id="lastname" class="form-control"/>
  24.                         </div>
  25.                         <div class="form-group">
  26.                                 <label>Address</label>
  27.                                 <input type="text" id="address" class="form-control"/>
  28.                         </div>
  29.                         <div class="form-group">
  30.                                 <button type="button" onclick="saveData()" class="btn btn-primary form-control">Save Data</button>
  31.                         </div>
  32.                 </div>
  33.                 <div class="col-md-6">
  34.                         <table class="table table-bordered">
  35.                                 <thead class="alert-info">
  36.                                         <tr>
  37.                                                 <th>Firstname</th>
  38.                                                 <th>Lastname</th>
  39.                                                 <th>Address</th>
  40.                                         </tr>
  41.                                 </thead>
  42.                                 <tbody id= "result"></tbody>
  43.                         </table>
  44.                 </div>
  45.         </div>
  46. </body>
  47. <script src="js/script.js"></script>
  48. </html>

Creating the Script

This code contains the script of the application. This code will store the data inputs when the button is clicked. To do this just copy and write these block of codes as shown below inside the text editor and save it as script.js inside the js directory
  1. var data = [];
  2.
  3. function saveData(){
  4.         var firstname = document.getElementById("firstname");
  5.         var lastname = document.getElementById("lastname");
  6.         var address = document.getElementById("address");
  7.
  8.         if(firstname.value == "" || lastname.value == "" || address.value == ""){
  9.                 alert("Please complete the required field first!");
  10.         }else{
  11.                 var member = {
  12.                         'firstname': firstname.value,
  13.                         'lastname': lastname.value,
  14.                         'address': address.value,
  15.                 };
  16.
  17.                 data.push(member);
  18.
  19.                 var table = "" ;
  20.
  21.                         for(var i in data){
  22.                                 table += "<tr>";
  23.                                 table += "<td>"
  24.                                                 + data[i].firstname +"</td>"
  25.                                                 + "<td>" + data[i].lastname +"</td>"
  26.                                                 + "<td>" + data[i].address +"</td>" ;
  27.                                 table += "</tr>";
  28.                         }
  29.
  30.                 document.getElementById("result").innerHTML = table;
  31.                 firstname.value = "";
  32.                 lastname.value = "";
  33.                 address.value = "";
  34.
  35.         }
  36. }

Comments

Dear Admin, I truly appreciate the work you do and thank you very much. Keep it up! I am a computer science student from Divine Word University, Madang, Papua New Guinea. The tutorials help me a lot on technical aspects of my final year project. The tutorials shared are simple but concept are very vital that enables me to progress in coding. Thank you!
