Writing C API for Berkely DB under UNIX

I wonder if anyone has the knowledge about how to write an API in C to manage Berkely DB under UNIX I have the code but it is not exceutable as it is missing few lines to run it sucessfully but somehow I am lost what is missing and how to make it workable. Any help will be appreciated highly
